Adherium submits US FDA 510(k) application for next generation Hailie® sensor with physiological measures

Adherium’s latest Hailie® sensor, designed for use with AstraZeneca’s Symbicort® aerosol inhaler, is the first in a series of devices specifically designed to enable physicians and providers to enhance patient care and clinical workflow by capturing clinical data and supporting patient management. This addition to the Hailie® range of products will allow access to reimbursement in the US for the remote monitoring of patients. “This is an important step in the extension of our digital respiratory management ecosystem. What Can Quantum Computing Do To Healthcare?

Quantum computing might bring supersonic drug design, in silico clinical trials with virtual humans simulated ‘live’, full-speed whole genome sequencing and analytics, the movement of hospitals to the cloud, the achievement of predictive health, or the security of medical data via quantum uncertainty. However, for a few interested folks, you should actually tell the story of how Google’s 54-qubit computer was able to complete a task in 200 seconds that Google estimated would take over 10,000 years for non-quantum, traditional computers. Still, how does quantum computing differ from regular computing? While we don’t really want to go down the rabbit hole of technicalities as the team is rather far off from quantum physics, as far as we understand it, this is not just a better and faster way of computing – it has a fundamentally different basis.

It isn’t by chance that quantum computers don’t measure their performance in bits, but qubits – while the former represents either ones or zeros, and thus the mathematical description of problems, the latter signifies states, which can simultaneously take up ones and zeros, or anything in-between. As phenomena in nature are not necessarily describable by ones and zeros, quantum computing could open up better ways to simulate nature. And as the previously mentioned light bulb had the potential to completely transform society, quantum computers have a truly revolutionary way to impact many parts of our lives – including medicine, pharma, and healthcare. Quantum computing is developing rapidly, as we can see from recent announcements. Bringing quantum computers into research communities will allow collaboration towards the advancement of the development of quantum computing, novel quantum algorithms and applications by validating the use-cases in real-world settings. Quantum computers are a thing. Running searches on quantum computers could unfold looking through all possible molecules at unimaginable speed for drug target tests conducted in every potential cell model or in silico human tissues and networks in the shortest amount of time possible. We believe that quantum computing could give a significant push to the area: faster sequencing, as well as a more comprehensive and faster analysis of the entire genome, will be possible with it. Plus, predictions will be more reliable as quantum computers could take into account even more information as traditional computers, and they could even build every piece of genomic data into health records.

Quantum computing could take out the guesswork from genomics and genetics for ensuring better health for everyone. Quantum computers will be able to make sense of these huge amounts of data, including bits and pieces of health information. Using quantum computers, fed with huge amounts of health parameters, genetic information, sensory data, and other personal health information, might be able to give a comprehensive prediction about a given person’s future health. Quantum computing would take that to a whole new level and even augment it with special skills. At the very endpoint of this development, quantum computers could create an elevated version of PubMed, where information would reside in the system but not in the traditional written form, but in qubits of data as no one except the computer would ‘read’ the studies anymore. In her TED talk, Shohini Ghose mentioned the use of quantum uncertainty for encryption as one of the most probable applications of quantum computing. Quantum computing has indeed amazing potential – in theory. Plus, another problem with quantum computing is that very few people know what it means and understand its workings completely.

VitalConnect Adds Mobile Cardiac Telemetry to its Arsenal

The launch of the MCT platform puts VitalConnect in a league of its own.

When compared to other wearable providers, VitalConnect is in a ‘different category’ with the addition of its mobile cardiac telemetry offering.

The San Jose, CA-based company revealed the offering late last week saying it now is the only cardiac monitoring solution available with a flexible, programmable platform, covering multiple cardiac monitoring needs.

The VitalConnect system provides healthcare professionals full access to real-time patient information which is also analyzed by certified cardiac monitoring technicians through VitalConnect’s own independent diagnostic testing facility (IDTF).

The VitalPatch RTM uses a wireless low-energy Bluetooth connection to transfer clean, high-fidelity ECG signals to the secure VitalCloud during the monitoring period.

“We are now the only company that offers cardiac monitoring, that has a platform solution that encompasses all four modalities on one wearable,” Peter Van Haur, CEO of VitalConnect told MD+DI. “Our patch acts as a holter; it acts as an extended holter; it acts an event recorder; and it acts as a mobile cardiac telemetry system. The other vendors that offer the technology have to provide physicians’ offices or hospitals multiple devices for each of those different categories. VitalConnect found itself in a prominent position during the pandemic.

In April of 2020,  VitalConnect earned an EUA from FDA for its VitalPatch to remotely monitor and detect QT interval changes in ECG for patients who are undergoing treatment in a hospital setting for COVID-19 with drugs that can prolong QT intervals.

And in November the company launched its VitalPatch RTM cardiac monitoring solution for patients who require extended Holter monitoring. It monitors for 21 cardiac arrhythmias through AI-based ECG analysis and captures vital signs data.

Today marks yet another milestone in Activ Surgical’s history as we announce that the company was issued its third patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for our ActivSightTM interoperable imaging module. The ActivSight module is designed to interface with existing vision systems to enable surgeons to view in real-time critical physiological structures and functions, like blood flow, that cannot be seen with the naked eye while in the operating room.

Our first U.S. patent for the ActivSight imaging module was issued in March of 2021, with a second patent granted in November 2021. This third patent – U.S. Patent No. 11,206,991 – was issued in December 2021 and protects our proprietary system and methods for processing laser speckle signals, which are currently delivered via the ActivSight module. This patent protects our intellectual property that provides intraoperative visual data and images on blood flow and perfusion not currently available to surgeons through existing technologies. The three patents are mission-critical for Activ Surgical and bring us one step closer to our goal of enhancing patient outcomes and democratizing surgical care around the world. I am incredibly proud of our staff, particularly the inventors of this technology, John Oberlin and Manny DeMaio.
